TROPICAL TERRARIUM WORKSHOP
Saturday, March 9th
2 pm - 4 pm
Spend an afternoon with us creating your own tropical terrarium! We will explore the humid world of tropical plants and create a stunning terrarium complete with the knowledge of soil types, proper drainage, plant types + care. Beautiful glass containers will add style to any corner of your home and you will be impressed with how low-maintenance this self-contained mini ecosystem really is!
All knowledge, materials, and tools are provided.

GEOMETRIC SUCCULENT TERRARIUM WORKSHOP

Spend the afternoon with us creating your own succulent terrarium! Succulents can be trickier to care for than you may expect (or you may have already learned), and we will teach you the best conditions, soil types, and proper construction of an ideal environment for these beautiful plants while you create a one-of-a-kind piece to proudly display in your home.
We will use and learn about various types of succulents and cacti, play with decorative accents, sand, stones and more to create your own desert ecosystem. *Geometric container may vary from this photo, but will be similar.

DIY NATURAL SOAPMAKING WORKSHOP

We're hosting Carly, Owner and Maker at the Sage Soap Company, for another popular DIY Soapmaking workshop!
Come and spend an afternoon learning a new, but age-old, skill! This workshop will teach you how to make bars of soap using items that you can easily find in the stores in your neighbourhood. You’ll come away from the workshop with a small batch (4-6 bars) of your own soap and the skills to recreate various recipes and future batches. Perfect for gifting for the upcoming Holiday season! Using essential oils, dried flower petals and mica powder you’ll customize your batch according to your own taste to make a truly custom soap blend!

WOODEN SPOON CARVING WORKSHOP
Saturday, March 30th
Join woodworker Bethanie Kaye to learn the fundamental, rewarding, and practical techniques of woodcarving!
Bethanie will discuss the importance of wood selection, tool safety & variations, as well as non-toxic, eco-friendly finishes and the after care for your project.
Each participant will design, carve and bring home a beautifully crafted wooden spoon.
Please note that the use of sharp carving tools will be used throughout the workshop and we ask that participants come prepared to pay careful attention and work very slowly when learning to carve. You will be asked to sign a waiver.
All supplies (and snacks!) will be provided.

FLORAL DESIGN 101

In this popular class we will spend the afternoon learning the basics of floral arranging and vase design. We will teach you what to do with a bunch of fresh cut flowers picked up from the market.
You will be taught the proper handling and care of fresh-cut flowers, the basic principles of floral design and then you will implement these principles to create a lush and garden-inspired vase arrangement to take home and enjoy, perfect for Easter entertaining!
We provide all of the flowers, materials, tools and knowledge required.

PLANT CARE 101

You've been asking and we've been planning!
We're excited to announce our first ever Plant Care 101 workshop featuring 'apartment jungle creator' herself, Anna, aka @Plantannaplant (on Instagram). Anna is plant obsessed! She, her better half, and their newly adopted senior dog live in an apartment jungle with approximately 150 cacti, succulents, and tropicals. She loves sharing her plant knowledge and passion with others!
Anna will be joined by our in-house plant expert, Ania, plant nurturer and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to keeping your indoors green. Ania has been one of the friendly faces of B + F for 1.5 years, saving many-a-plant from almost certain death through their experience and caring nature.
These two plant loving folks will guide you through plant care basics, re-potting, soil types, propagation, watering and more! We'll make sure to leave lots of time for Q + A.
Participants will take home a new plant baby!

ZERO WASTE WORKSHOP

Based in Guelph, Ontario, Tara McKenna is passionate about zero waste living. Tara founded The Zero Waste Collective, an online community and resource for everything about the zero waste lifestyle, in order to inspire everyday sustainability. From snorkeling in Bali to hiking on trails at home, she’s seen trash and plastic everywhere. Litter aside, Tara is helping others reduce their consumption and their trash with useful tips and tricks that we can use in everyday life.
Reducing our trash starts at home. At home we can see how much we consume, and how much we throw away. Are you ready to assess the trash that comes from your kitchen? Conduct a pantry audit! This Zero Waste 101 Workshop will get you started and teach you how to shop with your own containers, reusable produce and bulk bags, and make other household swaps. Tired of the one million options for cleaning supplies? Tara will share her favourite all-purpose cleaning recipe, too!

BOTANICAL FABRIC DYEING
with Cedars & Sage

Join Kate Thériault, the textile artist behind Cedars & Sage, as we explore the world of natural fabric dyeing with raw plants and fresh flowers.
The natural world is abundant with plant dye materials! Participants will be introduced to the theories behind the fabric preparation, dye extraction and dye setting process and through dye samples will discover the bountiful palettes that can be achieved.
Using pressure, heat, and a water-wise bundle dye method participants will learn an easeful, sustainable way to extract pigment to create colourful prints on cloth. All dye materials will be provided. Project pieces will include an ethically-made, organic cotton tea towel, three organic cotton handkerchiefs and a silk scarf.
Please note that some items will need to be picked up on Tuesday to allow for the completion of the dye process.

HOLISTIC BEAUTY WORKSHOP with WOODSIDE HOLISTIC

Spring is in full force and we are excited to announce this Holistic Skin Care event that is focused on blending the ancient technique of Facial Gua Sha with a DIY Facial oil serum for all you lovelies!
Gua Sha is a practice which uses a jade stone tool to gently massage the facial skin. The gentle, soothing motion of this practice helps to moves fluids and inundates the skin with fresh nutrient-rich blood, giving skin a healthy glow and boosting collagen production. In traditional Chinese medicine, Gua Sha helps to move stagnation which can manifest in the face as dull complexion, fine lines, and clogged pores. It tones and lifts the skin and enhances the structural integrity of the face.
We’ll also be creating a customized facial oil blend for your unique skin type and discover which essential oils and carrier oils are most beneficial for your skin. We will guide you through a fresh, take home beauty ritual which will leave your skin looking and feeling luminous!
Sara Hodgkinson is a registered acupuncturist who specializes in women’s health. She has teamed up with Kristen Blow from Woodside Holistic, who is a holistic skincare specialist and facialist and both practitioners in facial gua sha.

DIY ORGANIC PERFUMERY WORKSHOP

Create a scent that is 100% you, and 100% natural. Join us for an afternoon of smelling and playing with natural aroma. Bonita, of Essential Botanicals, will guide you through the process of creating your own custom perfume blend using their selection of organic essential oils and bases. You will go home with your signature scent roll-on, as well as the recipe, so you can recreate it again and again.
Bonita is trained as an Herbalist and Aromatherapist. She has worked in the fields of herbal medicine, organic perfumery and natural skincare for over 30 years. She’s been supplying The Aromatherapist, her line of certified organic essential oils, carrier oils and hydrosols to Canadians since 1993. Bonita lives and works in Guelph, Ontario.
